It’s really funny to think that I sell digital products for a living! For being in the online world for over 10 years now, you’d think I’d be more techy than I am! But it’s definitely a skill I’ve been working on all these years, not one I’m naturally good at. Despite my issues with technology, I absolutely love the digital product world.
Digital products are the way of the future. But they are also great because they are cost effective to make and sell, they allow more people to access them, and they provide more freedom for YOU… the creator. But not all digital products are created equally, and some are better suited for certain kinds of people.
My Top 3 Favorite Types of Digital Products
What is a digital product? A digital product is basically anything that exists in a digital form instead of a physical form. I’ve sold a ton of different kinds, and I’ve sold physical products. But here are my top 3 favorite types of digital products:
- eBooks. I’ve done cookbooks, workout programs, and even workbooks. My first ever best selling product was an eBook called Abs, Core, & Pelvic Floor. I’ve sold both physical and digital versions, but eBooks are great because there’s no shipping or storage!
- Membership sites/courses. I have both a membership site and a course, and both are created really similarly so I put them together. These are great for putting together a lot of different topics that are under one umbrella.
- Challenges. I have a free challenge, and I’ve done a paid challenge in the past. Challenges are great for one focused topic with a clear result at the end!
How to Choose Which is Right For You
The flow chart above is a great way to decide what kind of digital product is right for you. Just remember, I truly believe anyone can start their own online business by creating your own digital product. There is a digital product out there that’s right for you! Here are some things to keep in mind:
- You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to be an expert writer to write an eBook. Writing scares some people, but it’s something you can learn as you go. Plus, editing is your friend! The same is true for video. The first videos I took were on a flip phone. I started my podcast with limited audio equipment and recorded a lot on my phone! Don’t let the worry that you’re not an expert deter you from any of these options.
- Video doesn’t have to include your face. A lot of the videos I’ve done don’t include my face. Not everyone loves having their face on camera. You can use your voice and make a slideshow. Don’t let the idea of video content scare you if you don’t want to show your face.
- You can choose many types of products. If you choose the one that interests you the most now and you want to try a different one later, you can! I’ve done each one of these, and some I like more than others. The sky really is the limit.
Creating Your Product
Creating your own digital product doesn’t have to be as scary and overwhelming as it seems. I know it can be daunting to think about an audience, which online product to create, and selling online. But I have a FREE web class that can help!
