I want to talk about something called diastasis recti, which is a totally crazy sounding word, I know. It’s something that a lot of women experience, especially post pregnancy, and nobody really talks about it.
Diastasis simply means separation, and recti is referring to the rectus abdominis muscles that are in your abdominal cavity. Those muscles are held together by the linea alba.
After pregnancy often times those muscles will stretch out and don’t always come back together properly. That is a case of Diastasis Recti, where you have a gap in the center of your stomach.
It can cause issues with balance and posture. Sometimes it can even cause low back pain, because of the lack of strength.
