Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and there have been years where I sort of dreaded this day. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of times where being single was exactly what I wanted and that choice was very deliberate. However, there were times when it got lonely. And, there’s nothing that reminds you of that feeling quite like this holiday.

However…

Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about romantic love for your partner, it can be about self-love as well! Whether you’re single or in a relationship, it’s still great to practice some self-love on this day. Here are some ideas for you…

Take Yourself Shopping

Treating yourself can be a great form of self-love, especially if you tend to be a little tight on the purse strings! Taking yourself shopping doesn’t have to be a big production that drains your bank account, it can be something small. Buying a book you’ve been wanting, a new top, or even just window shopping can be a fun way to treat yourself today. It’s a way of thanking yourself for all that you do, and improving your mood if you tend to be a little down on this day. And, even if you aren’t, it’s still nice to treat yourself every now and again if you don’t do it often.

Go on a Date

Take yourself to coffee and read a book, walk around the park and listen to a podcast, or take yourself to lunch. Maybe take your kids somewhere fun, go to dinner with a girlfriend, or plan a night in with popcorn and a movie. It doesn’t have to be like any other day, you can make it special in a way that makes the most sense for you. If there’s no one in your life at the moment to take you out on a date, know that you can be that person for yourself!

Make Your Favorite Treat

Sometimes I find that my love language leans towards cooking! I love creating new recipes, putting a healthy spin on unhealthy recipes, and cooking recipes that have been in the family for a long time. However, sometimes I get in a rut with cooking. I stick to the same recipes, I focus on foods that are good for my kids that they will actually eat, and I don’t really cook for myself unless I have to cook for my kids as well. If you’re like me, it can be a great self-care activity to make yourself one of your favorite treats. That might mean baking something sweet, trying a new recipe, or making something you love that your kids don’t like.

Buy Yourself Flowers

Honestly, I buy myself flowers all the time! It’s one of the small things in life that makes me happy. I don’t always have someone in my life to buy them for me, so I buy them myself! That doesn’t make them any less special, and it still makes me happy, so it’s a fun way that I can show myself some love. Sometimes I grab them while I grocery shop, but making a special trip just to buy yourself some flowers is a great self-love activity for yourself today. If you like flowers, and you want them for Valentine’s Day, go buy them!

Whether you love this holiday, or you hate it, or you’re indifferent about it, there are ways to show yourself some love on this day that are simple and easy.

How do you usually celebrate Valentine’s Day?
