I get messages from friends and family ALL the time saying “I know you don’t believe in losing weight really fast, but how do I lose weight really fast??”
“How do I lose my belly fat?”
Unfortunately there is no such thing as spot reduce, but I wish I could take a magic wand and decide to lose weight in my thighs because that is where I gain weight first.
This is what you should focus on: Overall body fat loss.
A few tips:
1. Drink more water (I know it sounds silly and you hear it ALL the time, but it really does make a difference)
Our bodies are made up of 75% of water, and if you don’t hydrate enough then your body will not be able to flush all the bad things out of your system. Your body needs water in order to function optimally.
2. Pay attention to your nutrition
Here is what I suggest, keep track of your food for 1 to 2 weeks (I use MyFitnessPal). It can be really eyeopening and a good tool to help you realize that maybe you are over eating or under eating.
I try to aim for 45%-50% of carbs, 20%-25% protein, and 20%-25% fats.
Make sure you are getting an adequate amount of exercise. Many believe we need 1-2 hours a day to see awesome results, and really that is not maintainable.
The secret is consistency, 3-5 times a week with about 30 minutes of exercise. This can be walking at a quick pace, or a quick at home workout.
You will see much better results by being consistent, with shorter workouts over a long period of time than being super intense, crashing and burning, and falling off the wagon.
These are the tips I suggest, just keep in mind that unfortunately we cannot spot reduce, but there are ways to reduce our overall body fat and remember, this is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
Consistency really is the key.
