How to Grind Your Own Oat Flour

Yesterday I had just finished up with 12 minutes of level 12.0 sprints on the treadmill (which explains the red face and sweaty hair – sorry!) and came home to make a protein shake.  I needed to blend up some more oat flour and made a quick video showing you how I do it.  I use oat flour in most of my breakfast bar/protein bar recipes and I also use 1/3 to 1/2 cup in my post workout shakes.

When I am going through recipes on Pinterest or in cookbooks to get recipe ideas I will also almost always sub oat flour for white or wheat flour.

I hope this is helpful!  Have you ever ground your own oat flour before?

  • Thanks so much for sharing Natalie. I have been wanting to try to make my own for some time. I use a ton of organic arrowhead oat flour and it can get pricey. Going to make my own today! I have been following your page and eating clean for about 6 months . Loving the results! I have learned soooo much about clean eating from you and Jamie. Just wanted to say thanks for all your tips and advice. Love your new website!!!

  • Why oat flour? is it that much better for you then whole wheat or quinoa flour? How many calories are in a cup?

  • Why do you use it in your PWO shakes? I thought fast digesting carbs (like fruit) were ideal. I also thought oats were low digesting. ?????

  • Carrie thank you SO much for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment!! I appreciate all your support – definitely keep me posted on your progress!!

  • Natali thanks for the video. I have a question. I buy oat groat bulk, non processed and then just get the flour out of them. Can i use this flour in my shakes or should i leave in water, dry and then grind the bulk oat groats?

P.S. the flour that i produce is excatly the same as any flour but my concern is whether it hurts the stomach or not. Thanks in advance
