Halloween: My Favorite Holiday!

Since we are just a month and a half away from my favorite holiday ever, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite ideas I’ve found off online that I want to try this year for Halloween!  If you want to read more about my 30 day blogging challenge and see a list of topics for each day, you can do that by clicking here.
If you aren’t following me on Pinterest yet, then click here to see all my boards.  I am a recovering Pinterest addict.  No, seriously, I used to spend wayyy too much time on Pinterest.  So much time, that I had to delete the app on my phone and now I’m not quite so addicted.  But, I still love it, and about once a month or so I go back to my boards to get some fun holiday decorating ideas.

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday.  I love getting the kids dressed up, I love handing out candy, I love decorating my house, and I love seeing all the cute kiddos that come to our door.  It is just such a fun holiday and one of my favorites to decorate for!  I should probably preface this by admitting that I am possibly the worst decorator ever.  Seriously, that is a talent I do not possess. at. all.  Haha, so even though I see all these cute ideas, and I try a lot of them, my house never really looks all that cute because for whatever reason I have such a hard time putting ideas together to make them look good.

BUT, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Halloween finds…all things I am going to try this year.  I may have to do a follow up blog with before/after photos, and hopefully they aren’t all Pinterest fails!  🙂

Let me start by showing you some of the fun costumes I have made for my little guy the past few years.  My little guy had just turned one in this picture and was barely walking.  I made this baby chick costume by sewing a whole bunch of yellow feather boas onto a sweatshirt!  I picked up some brown girl leggings at Target for the legs, and cut a beak/feet out of felt.  The feathers originally were really close to his face and it was super cute, but the feathers were bugging him and so I had to cut some of them back.  The costume was cute, but I swear I found yellow feathers throughout our house for the entire next year!

The next year I made this costume for my little guy: a sumo wrestler.  I am so sad that we didn’t take a single good picture of the costume, but it’s probably because my little guy hated the costume and wouldn’t sit still for a picture.  I can’t even remember why I thought this was going to be a good costume, and it didn’t turn out as cute as I had envisioned in my head. I just sewed two long sleeve onesies together, and two pairs of white leggings together, dyed them nude colored, then stuffed them with quilt filling.  His sumo wrestler pants were falling off in this picture and he didn’t like the costume because it made him so hot.  Luckily when you are two, you don’t really end up trick or treating at a lot of houses anyway and so he didn’t have to wear it for long.  He got a bunch of extra candy from people laughing at his crazy costume though!

I still haven’t decided what we are going to do for his costume this year, and unfortunately, I may not have much say now that he is older and opinionated.

Here are some of my favorite Hall/Halloween ideas for this year!

This idea comes from Martha Stewart.  Put a clear bowl into a scraped out pumpkin to make an adorable punch bowl for a Halloween party!

Isn’t this an adorable idea??  I might just try this with my little girl.  Guess what?  She sat up all on her own today!!  *proud mama moment*  Note: This isn’t MY little girl, to check out this photo’s owner click here

Here is an adorable healthy treat idea!  My son turns four this month and I am thinking of doing this for his birthday treats.  What do you think?  Too lame?  I’m not sure the other kids would dig it as much as a cupcake.  These would also be cute to hand out instead of candy to trick or treaters, but could get kinda pricey.  If your kids had a Halloween Party at school this could be a healthy fruit option you could bring!  Click here for original poster.

Speaking of healthy treats…..wouldn’t either of these be a fun veggie platter to serve at a Halloween party!?

Wouldn’t this be fun to make??  All it takes is two boas, 10 Styrofoam balls, and some googly eyes.  Click here for instructions.

Speaking of wreaths…isn’t this witch wreath amazing?!  On her Etsy website it says the wreath is $429. I have a hard time believing people would pay that much, but I bet you could make a toned down version of this!  Super Cute!  Speaking of cute wreaths….my best friend just started her own wreath company.  If you are in the Houston area check out her FB page for her business: ADOORable Wreaths.  The wreaths are super cute and super affordable!

Here is an adorable craft you could do with your kiddos.  We may do these as grandparent gifts and send them out.  The downside of having a ‘modern family’ is that when we make grandparent gifts we have to make like 10 versions of the same thing to send out.  The plus side is that there are a whole lot more people to love on my kiddos.

This is SUCH a funny idea!  My little guy loves eggs and turkey bacon and eats it most mornings.  I need to remember to make this on Halloween morning!

Lastly, I just have to share some of my Fall/Halloween Scentsy favorites!!  Scentsy just came out with Pumpkin Roll hand soap and lotion and it smells uh-mazzzing!!  Pumpkin, vanilla, and cinnamon…..yumm!  Click here where you can order from my Scentsy site.  If you didn’t know, I am a SuperStar Director with Scentsy.  What once started as something I did on the side to feed my Scentsy addiction, and pay off our student loans, is now something I do full time, and is what allows me to work from home with my kiddos.

And I just ordered this cuuute and spooky Scentsy warmer for my kitchen!  The white part is a ‘core’ warmer and then each season you can rotate out the ‘wrap’ part.  This is the Bones wrap and I am in love!  Fall scents are my absolute favorite.  I go crazy over scents like Pumpkin Roll, Apple Press, Honey Pear Cider, Baked Apple Pie, Sticky Cinnamon Bun, etc (notice a food theme here haha).  Click here to check out more scents that make your house smell so good in the fall!

Those are some of my Halloween favorites.  What are you dressing your kiddos up for Halloween this year?  Do you like to get dressed up for Halloween?  If so, what are you dressing as?  Only 49 days until my favorite holiday…..let the countdown begin!

Your Friend,
Natalie
