About Natalie Hodson

Thank you for visiting!  I am a mom to two young children (4 and 1), and I love sharing my personal recipes, my workout routines, and encouraging others to make healthy decisions.

On my blog I share meals and recipes that our whole family will eat (Clean Eating Beef and Barley Soup is my husband’s favorite), tips for eating healthy, and ideas for exercising with a busy work schedule.  I also put up blog posts like, “Embracing my Body Changes”, “My First Workout After Baby Was Born”, and “Stretched Skin After Pregnancy #ownit” where I open up and talk about the struggles I’ve faced throughout my weight loss journey, what makes me feel vulnerable, and how I’ve pushed through my own challenges and insecurities to keep on with a healthy lifestyle.

As the oldest of ten kids (yes, ten!), growing up I was always active and running around with my siblings.  I ran cross country and track in high school, and by my senior year I knew if I dedicated myself to running I could use my talent to help pay for college.  My family was able to bless me with many things, but money for college was not one of them.  I was lucky enough to get a scholarship to run in college, and I ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track for four years until I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

Fast forward a few years, I was married (ironically, my husband and I met in the weight room in college) and we were expecting our first baby.  I gained around 60 lbs with baby #1, and although I was so happy after he was born to have this beautiful little boy, I remember just looking in the mirror and feeling like the person I saw in the mirror was not the person I felt like I should be.  I decided to train for a marathon (read here about my very first marathon story) and was able to lose quite a bit of the weight that way, but I still didn’t have the muscle tone and definition I had always wanted.  I started doing a little bit more research and learned about clean eating and lifting weights.  I completely changed my workout routine by doing limited cardio, lifting heavy weights, and I slowly started making changes to my diet.  I was shocked at the great results I saw, and was hooked.  Fast forward a few more years, I was pregnant with baby #2 and this time I gained 70 lbs!  I was 218 lbs when I delivered her (you can read the full birth story here).  Luckily this time I knew the basics of weight training and how to eat properly to lose the weight.  I lost about a pound a week incorporating my training and nutrition philosophies and was back to my pre-pregnancy size by the time the baby was 10 months old.

I started my blog as a way to help keep me accountable, and share with others what has worked and what hasn’t.  Over the past two years, this website has grown substantially where we now have over a quarter million monthly visitors.  My favorite part of running this website is interacting with each of you, hearing your success stories, and learning how you are balancing family, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.  My blog posts are varied and sometimes random ranging from breastfeeding questions, to recipe ideas, to vlogs showing our day-to-day life!

Thank you for visiting.  My site is constantly changing so I encourage you to visit often, leave comments, ask questions, and get involved.  Coming very soon I will be releasing my own training programs and with recipe cookbooks, and much more!

Your friend,

Natalie Hodson

Just wondering how did you break into the fitness world?

    • Hey Lindsay! I’m planning on doing a blog post about it later this week with all the details! :)

  8. Hello, Natalie! I am so glad to find your site! I really need your motivation & great advice. I love your site. I have been struggling so much keeping motivated and keeping at it to lose the weight this time, after my 4th baby. I often feel like I was fit so long ago that it was in my imagination. I am a starter at lifting weights, and already had my scale taken away by my husband because I was gaining & becoming depressed & hopeless. (Despite changing & looking/feeling better- crazy I know) But I am keeping at it & trying to be an inspiration to others, be healthy, and happy & make my family proud :)
